Layering with colour & texture – Collage

A visual project- placed out before me were pictures, a couple of drawings in different tones, a small watercolour canvas and sketched figures on tracing paper. I assembled them, and found them useful for the way the colours complement the other, matching. There are cool tones in the patterns of indigo and cyan and warm tones of orange and fuchsia.

The creative collage is of different facets of a female wearing ‘aso’, traditional garments worn by Nigerian women. Usually worn to match, here I’d chosen to show the wax print fabric known as ‘ankara.’Prominently featured,, ‘the gele’ a crown like adornment worn by African women, in this case Yoruba. A guest in the family, whether an aunty or even friend is likely to wear this.It is a craft in itself which is why I thought to make a composition vid.

A personal study looking at styles of headtie!

I started experimenting with layers, and complementing colours.
