A reminder.
A gift can be one of two halves.
I reflect on the character of this cheeriness being a great mural of cherries– Something abounding, blossoming and in fruiting season.
There’s a reason for which I quote cherry and cheerful, I reflect on James 5:13, serving a reminder of what we are given and what we are to give unto God.
I could remember when I felt cheery all of a sudden, the moment of the year was my birthday, it was the point of a new chapter. Feeling like there was a joy and a perspective to life that could not be taken away, not even by the greatest leveller that we knew of this millenium. As a millenial, I could grasp the nostalgia of writing cards and gushing over cards too. The feeling took me back to the end of term from school: you get a chance to get the greeting cards out; few words to encourage your mates, to mark the year and show a bit of sentiment through art.
I designed “Cherry and Cheerful” series in 2021. I created this around a pretty lush painting of cherries that I’d made. I further began to add the design into a collage, playing with some stills to effectively create content.
I’d even considered what it would be to have it digitised into a mural.
I still enjoy the effect that greeting cards have on me. There are times that such cards are posted out to me or simply given as a note to pop-in-your-hand. There’s a craft to it and I’m so certain that its practice is a virtuous one that we all can keep going.
